Miami (FL) Hurricanes

The Miami (FL) Hurricanes basketball team represents the University of Miami in NCAA Division I men's competition.

Team History

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team has a long, occasionally checkered, but ultimately successful history. The program traces its origins back to 1926. Despite some promising seasons, those early years were marked by limited resources and inconsistent success. Following several seasons of struggle, the difficult decision was made to disband the team in 1971.

Fortunately, the program experienced a resurgence in 1985 when the university reinstated the team. Ever since that revival, the Miami Hurricanes have evolved into a formidable force in college basketball, known for their tenacious defense and exciting style of play.

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program officially began in 1926. In those formative years, the team faced challenges common to many young programs. Championships and Achievements

Though their early years weren’t marked by championships, the Miami Hurricanes have since established themselves as a program with winning pedigree. They’ve captured the ACC regular-season title in 2013 as well as the ACC Tournament Championship in 2013.

The Hurricanes have made deep NCAA tournament runs, including multiple Sweet Sixteen appearances, two Elite Eight appearances (2022 and 2023), and an incredible Final Four run in 2023. These successes signify the Hurricanes’ rise as a respected basketball powerhouse in the competitive landscape of college basketball.
