Herschelle Gibbs Unimpressed By Rohit Sharma's Century Celebration, Labels It A 'Stinker'

Rohit Sharma’s latest ODI hundred came with an unexpected twist as the veteran Indian opener celebrated his milestone with a distinctive jump that immediately caught attention. Rohit reached three figures against the West Indies in only 72 deliveries during the second ODI on Thursday. After getting to his century, however, his unusual celebration became almost as talked about as his innings. The 39-year-old chose not to reveal the reason behind the gesture, telling reporters that some things are better kept private. Gibbs Takes A Dig At Rohit’s Celebration Gonna message Rohit and tell him his 100 celebration was a stinker 😂😂 what was that ! 🤦♂️ — Herschelle Gibbs (@hershybru) September 30, 2026 Herschelle Gibbs, South Africa great and Rohit Sharma's former Deccan Chargers teammate, reacted to the moment on his official X account, making it clear that he wasn't impressed. "Gonna message Rohit and tell him his 100 celebration was a stinker. What was that!" Read More: 'Agarkar Will Now Be Regretting': Rohit Sharma's Century Draws Big Remark From Ex-India Cricketer Rohit eventually departed for 101 from 75 balls, but his innings had already helped India build the platform for a remarkable chase. During his stay at the crease, he also reached another significant milestone, becoming just the third Indian batsman to cross 12,000 ODI runs. Jadeja Had His Own Celebration Idea Rohit Sharma later offered some insight into the conversation surrounding his century celebration. Ravindra Jadeja had apparently suggested an even more elaborate routine involving a slide and a jump. "He was asking me what that was about. I said, 'I'll tell you in the dressing room'. It's for me. But he was quite innovative. He wanted me to come and slide and jump, and that's how he wanted me to celebrate." Rohit admitted that such a celebration was never seriously considered after spending a long period on the field. "I said, 'Man, after 50 overs of fielding and batting almost for 25-30 overs, I was never going to do that'," While Rohit’s century was a major highlight, Shubman Gill stole the spotlight later with an unbeaten 223, the fastest double-century in ODI cricket, as India successfully chased 406 in just 43.3 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal announces retirement from first-class cricket, shifts focus toward white-ball comeback for India

India leg-spinner spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on Friday (October 2) announced his retirement from first-class cricket. While Chahal never fulfilled his dream of earning a Test cap for India, he expressed complete peace with his journey. His first-class career concluded at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground while playing for Northamptonshire against Middlesex in the English County Championship last week. “The first cricket ball I ever held was a red ball. I was 10 years old, and I had no idea then how deeply I would fall in love with this game. For me, red-ball cricket was never just another format. It was where I learned the meaning of patience, character, resilience and the pure joy of being out there for hours, fighting for every run and every wicket,” Chahal wrote in an Instagram post. “I played my last First-Class match at Lords, saying these words is emotional as a Test cap was always a dream, one that I carried with me for many years. It may not have happened, but I am genuinely content with the journey I have had and incredibly grateful for every opportunity that came my way in this format. The red ball gave me some of the most beautiful memories of my life, and nothing will ever take that away,” he added. While closing the door on the longest format, Chahal explicitly stated that he is focused entirely on making a comeback in white-ball cricket (ODIs and T20Is) for the national team. “But I AM NOT DONE YET. The hunger to play for my country is still very much alive. I believe I have the cricket left in me, and I will give everything I have to earn another opportunity in the One-Day and T20 formats.” Chahal gave special recognition to his domestic roots, thanking officials from the Haryana Cricket Association for their lifelong backing. “A special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association, Mr. Ranbir Singh Mahindra Sir and Mr. Anirudh Singh Chaudhary Sir for their continuous support, trust and belief throughout my journey. From a 10-year-old holding his first red ball to playing his final First-Class game, it has been one hell of a journey,” he concluded. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yuzvendra Chahal (@yuzi_chahal23) Yuzvendra Chahal featured in a total of 49 first-class matches, claiming 148 wickets at an average of 32.27, including 6 five-wicket hauls.

How the news feed works

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
