Doc Rivers joins NBC as analyst, says coaching career over - ESPN

Doc Rivers turned down an offer to become an NBA analyst for NBC after retiring as a player in 1996 because he couldn't promise then-NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol that he wouldn't become a coach. With Rivers now insisting that his Hall of Fame coaching career is over, the time seemed right for him to join NBC. The network announced Monday that Rivers will be an analyst on games this season across NBC, Peacock and NBCSN, along with the possibility for some studio work. «I honestly can say I'm absolutely retired,» Rivers said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. «I had a long run. It ended up in the [Naismith] Hall of Fame [earlier this year], and I am so thankful that I was able to coach and played as long as I did. For the first time, I can focus on giving TV my 100% attention, which I'm really looking forward to. »I think I've always been pretty honest.

About the news

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

How the news feed works

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
