A handful of games are now free to play for the weekend for Xbox gamers. While they can be played freely for now, it's just for a limited time, as the promotion will expire on Sept. 27.
For this weekend, four different games can be played for free until the end of the promotion. Two of the titles are for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, while the other two are free for everyone. For the Game Pass users, The Escapists 2 and Young Suns are available to play for free as of Sept. 24. Notably, Young Suns is playable for both console and PC players. The two games that are free for all include PGA Tour 2K25 and Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
The sequel to the hit game The Escapists, 2017's The Escapists 2 has players taking on the role of an inmate trying to escape from a series of increasingly difficult prisons. It requires strategizing, from following prison schedules, taking on jobs to earn money, crafting tools and weapons, and building relationships with other prisoners. There are multiple ways of escaping, and an added four-player co-op mode allows players to bring in some friends to help with the plan.
Young Suns, meanwhile, is a cozy life-sim set on the planet Jupiter. The people have overthrown the planet's corporations, and the player character travels around in a spaceship to help the newly-liberated society rebuild. Characters and spaceships can be fully customized, while quests can be done to help the various communities. Up to three other players are able to drop in for co-op gameplay as well. Young Suns uses a real-world time system that encourages playing a little each day rather than immediately binging through the entire game.
PGA Tour 2K25 is the first installment of the series to feature all three major championships: the PGA championship, U.S. Open, and the Open Championship. Players can create and customize their own golfers to compete against real-life PGA pros. The game allows for the simulation of portions of tournaments if a player doesn't want to play every hole. It offers cross-platform multiplayer for casual and ranked play.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 rounds out the offerings that are free to play this weekend. It moves the action from New York to a post-pandemic version of Washington, D.C. Players take control of a Division Agent, a sleeper operative activated to help restore order. It's not like conventional shooters, as it is heavily RPG-based with a progression system. Though it was released in 2019, it continues to receive new content with the next DLC arriving on Nov. 3.
Check out the aforementioned games on Xbox until Sept. 27.
