£50m Nottingham Forest player actually nearly signed for Fulham this summer

Nottingham Forest signed five new players in the summer, with Oliver Glasner choosing quality over quantity in the transfer window.
The Reds have made a very ordinary start to the season, winning just one of their six Premier League games, and Glasner has work to do.
Liam Delap was spared blame for the sitter he missed at Palace. At £50 million, Forest expect him to be scoring goals on a regular basis, and he needs to ensure he hits the goal trail very quickly.
Now, some news has come to light over Delap. It’s believed that a number of clubs were interested in the summer, with one transfer expert sharing one of the clubs who wanted him.
It appears that Forest had stiff competition for Delap before tempting him into a move to the City Ground, with Fulham one of the clubs keen to land him.
Jacobs believes that Fulham opted to sign Gonzalo Garcia as a work-in-progress option, rather than part with £50 million to land Delap from rivals Chelsea.
Delap ultimately ended up at Forest and with the striker already off the mark, there is hope that he can come good with more games that he plays.
Jacobs told Give Me Sport: “I’ll feel a bit sorry for Arbeloa if he is to pay the price. And we’re obviously not there yet because sometimes you can bring in the right players and the right foundations, but it ultimately just takes a lot of time in an unforgiving Premier League to see that return because some of them are young, and many of them haven’t had the Premier League experience. And a source had sort of told me when they added Gonzalo Garcia that the other name Fulham were toying with was Liam Delap, who went to Nottingham Forest.”
Delap shouldn’t be defined by his miss at the weekend. Clearly, he just needs to rediscover some confidence, and hopefully at some point this season he can go on a scoring run just as he did with Ipswich.
Fans will need some patience with Delap. After a drab season with Chelsea, things will take time and Forest could still prove to be the perfect club for him.
