Adam Jones makes job announcement after being overlooked by Wales

Wales legend Adam Jones has extended his contract with Harlequins after missing out on the Wales scrum coach job earlier this year.

The former Wales and British and Irish Lions prop has committed his future to the English club, where he works as scrum and contact coach.

Jones, who won 95 caps for Wales during an illustrious playing career, joined Harlequins as a player in 2015 before moving into coaching three years later.

The 45-year-old had been among the high-profile candidates interviewed for the Wales scrum coach position in the summer, having previously worked with the national team on secondment.

However, it was fellow former Wales prop Paul James who ultimately landed the role, joining Steve Tandy's coaching staff on a permanent basis.

Jones has now confirmed a contract extension at Harlequins, where he has established himself as a key member of the coaching set-up.

"I'm really pleased to be extending my time at Harlequins," Jones said.

"This club has been a huge part of my life since I first came here as a player in 2015, and it's been a natural home for my coaching career since.

"The club has built a strong group of coaches this summer, we're always learning from each other, testing and pushing one another to be the best we can be.

"There is also an exciting group of forwards and front rowers coming through at the club, and I'm looking forward to being part of their progress as we continue building towards future success for Harlequins."

Harlequins have also brought in ex-England hooker Joe Gray as their lead rugby transition coach after Matt Ferguson joined the England Women's setup.

Jones' new deal means he will continue his work with Harlequins' scrum and contact areas, while helping develop the club's next generation of front-rowers.

His new contract comes just over three months after Wales appointed James ahead of him and fellow former Wales international Duncan Jones following a competitive selection process.

James, who won 66 caps for Wales and a Grand Slam during his playing career, had initially stepped into the scrum coach role on a temporary basis during this year's Six Nations after Duncan Jones suffered an injury.

Tandy subsequently backed James to take the position on a full-time basis.
