Adelaide former first-round draft pick Luke Pedlar requests trade to crosstown rivals Port Adelaide

Former first-round draft pick Luke Pedlar has requested a trade from Adelaide to crosstown rivals Port Adelaide.

The 24-year-old has struggled to cement his spot in the Crows’ best team during his six years at AFL level, playing 49 games since being taken with pick 11 in the 2020 draft.

Pedlar is out of contract at Adelaide, but not a free agent, so the two clubs will have to agree to a trade.

Both South Australian clubs confirmed the news on Monday afternoon.

“Adelaide forward Luke Pedlar has informed Port Adelaide he wishes to join the club during the upcoming AFL trade period,” Port Adelaide said.

“Port Adelaide will work with Adelaide to facilitate a trade for Pedlar when the trade period opens on Monday, October 5.”

It makes Pedlar set to become just the seventh player in AFL history to spend time at both Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

Another nine have been on Adelaide’s AFL list and Port Adelaide’s SANFL list at different stages.

Rory Atkins played 101 games for the Crows between 2013 and 2020, then went up to Gold Coast where he played 37 games in four years, before a return to South Australia last year when he played three times in his only season at the Power.

Collingwood defender Billy Frampton played three games at Port between 2015 and 2019 and 21 games at Adelaide between 2020 and 2022 before finding his home at the Pies in 2023, where he has since played 74 games and won a premiership.

David Brown, Brett Chalmers, Ian Downsborough, Matthew Bode and Brad Symes are the only other players to have been at both Adelaide clubs in the AFL.
