Alex Pereira rules out ‘kind of impossible’ desired boxing move due to current UFC status

Alex Pereira has given up on his boxing goals due to his UFC contract.
Dana White recently commented on Pereira’s heavyweight future ahead of his second fight in the division later this year.
A loss at the White House after giving up his light heavyweight belt hasn’t discouraged ‘Poatan’ from pursuing this goal.
Amid concerns surrounding Pereira’s future following UFC 335, he recently commented on whether we could see him compete in boxing before the end of his career.
Tell us how Alex Pereira's second heavyweight fight plays out…
Alex Pereira’s coach is set to make his Misfits debut this weekend, with the two set to reverse roles.
‘Poatan’ will be cornering Plinio Cruz for the former fighter’s long-awaited return to competition in London.
In an interview on fight week, the former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight champion was asked whether he could compete in a similar bout at some stage.
Just last year, Pereira told the Connect Cast that he was “definitely going to box” because he likes the idea of challenging himself in another ruleset.
The Brazilian striking specialist said that this is no longer the case due to the lengthy new contract that he signed with MMA’s top promotion earlier this year.
“Well, with seven fights left in his UFC contract at 39, it’s kind of impossible,” Pereira told Fred Talks Fighting through his coach. “But, he’s happy to be here with me [Cruz].”

Alex Pereira is going to miss out on opportunities like boxing as a result of signing a long-term deal with the UFC.
It’s hard to imagine ‘Poatan’ competing in many more of those bouts unless he is able to turn his heavyweight move around later this year.
However, these concerns clearly weren’t important to Pereira back when he signed the contract.
He said when announcing this news that he had no issue with vacating his light heavyweight title and was willing to do whatever the promotion wanted due to how much they’re paying him.
