UFC legend Amanda Nunes could become the difference-maker for a key “milestone in history” if she does overcome Kayla Harrison in her MMA comeback clash.

Amanda Nunes made a U-turn on her retirement in 2025 and has been waiting to take her first steps back into the octagon since she bowed out of the sport in 2023.

The hotly anticipated fight with Kayla Harrison was scheduled for January at UFC 324, but the clash was pushed to UFC 331 in September before being delayed again.

However, Nunes will now co-main event the UFC 334 card at Madison Square Garden in November when she fights for the women’s bantamweight championship.

Mackenzie Dern is the current UFC women’s strawweight champion and won the then-vacant title against Virna Jandiroba in Abu Dhabi at UFC 321 in 2025.

Natalia Silva is now hopeful to match her fellow Brazilian by becoming a UFC champion when she challenges for the UFC women’s flyweight title on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of her UFC 332 encounter with Wang Cong, Natalia Silva touched on the importance of Brazil having three world MMA champions before the end of 2026.

The 29-year-old highlighted that a win for her over Wang Cong would then leave Amanda Nunes to complete a “historic moment for women’s and Brazilian MMA.”

“I really believe in that,” Silva told MMA Fighting.

“I’m going to do my part Saturday. I’m going after the belt. I’ve dedicated myself a lot to this, trained really hard, spent a month living in Mexico, training in Mexico because of the altitude.

“I gave up a lot of things to live this experience, to train, to focus only on the fight, and I’m going to do my part.

“And I also believe Amanda has all the potential to do it. Three Brazilian champions at the same time would be a milestone in history. It would be a milestone, a historic moment for women’s and Brazilian MMA.”

Nunes, who is regarded as one of the best women’s MMA fighters of all time, vacated the UFC women’s bantamweight title after her win over Irene Aldana.

The UFC Hall of Famer’s last defeat inside the octagon came in Julianna Pena’s stunning upset over Nunes at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 269 in 2021.

Nunes lost the women’s bantamweight crown and her 12-fight streak to Julianna Pena, but she bounced back and avenged her defeat by regaining the title at UFC 277.

The 38-year-old Brazilian-American MMA star’s five-round co-main event fight with women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison will take place on November 14.
