Amanda Serrano hailed Katie Taylor as the greatest female boxer in the history of the sport following her retirement on Saturday after her win over Flora Pili.
Taylor brought the curtain down on her remarkable career by successfully defending the WBA, IBF, and WBO super-lightweight titles while also claiming the vacant WBC belt and Pili's IBO title with a victory over the French fighter. It was yet another commanding display from Taylor, who has decided to hang up her gloves at the age of 40.
She had revealed her retirement plans ahead of the bout at the iconic Croke Park in Dublin, leaving her gloves and championship belts in the ring as she celebrated. She has already expressed her desire to settle into a quieter life at home with her husband.
Taylor was already a household name in Ireland and the UK following her extraordinary amateur career, which included an Olympic gold medal, before going on to reign supreme as a professional.
However, it was her showdowns in the United States against Serrano that truly elevated her to global stardom, with two victories against her at Madison Square Garden and one at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium, on the undercard of Jake Paul's bout with Mike Tyson, reports the Irish Star.
Serrano took to social media to crown Taylor as the greatest women's boxer of all time just minutes before her ring walk.
She posted: "In a few Minutes @KatieTaylor makes her final ring walk, a True Legend. The Woman that made it Possible for Olympic Medals to be Contested and Won. The REAL GWOAT without disrespecting any other.
"Thank you for Sharing 30 amazing rds with me. Katie, GOD BLESS you Always!".
Meanwhile, Paul, Serrano's close friend and promoter of her bouts with Taylor, mirrored her sentiments about the Irish superstar while paying tribute to her ahead of her walkout.
Jake Paul tweeted: "I've often said what I am most proud of is the work I have done with Amanda Serrano. Well, that doesn't happen without Katie Taylor. A true champion, an icon, a trailblazer.
"Because of your commitment and sacrifice, you are leaving women's boxing in a completely different place than you found it.
"It's been an honor to work with you. Enjoy tonight, enjoy retirement, enjoy life. You deserve every bit of it."
Taylor saw off Pili via unanimous decision, hanging up her gloves with an impressive 26-1 record. Her sole defeat came against Chantelle Cameron, whom she stepped up in weight to face, before settling the score with a victory in their subsequent rematch.
