Americans dominate first day of U.S. Open quarterfinals

An All-American matchup between third-seeded Jessica Pegula and 26th seed Emma Navarro highlight one of the two quarterfinals that will be played in the women's draw at the U.S. Open on Tuesday. Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova plays two-time defending U.S. Open Champion Aryna Sabalenka in the other quarterfinal on Tuesday.

All singles matches will be played at Arthur Ashe Stadium for the remainder of the U.S. Open. Noskova and Sabalenka is the first match on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ET. Navarro and Pegula begin a blockbuster night on Ashe with the match scheduled for 7 p.m.

Noskova is seeking her second consecutive Grand Slam title after winning Wimbledon in July. Sabalenka is attempting to win her first Grand Slam in 2026 and her third consecutive US Open title. Noskova won her first two 2026 US Open matches in straight sets before needing three sets in her last two wins to advance to her first quarterfinal in New York.

Sabalenka, the No. 1 seed, has lost 22 games in four consecutive straight-set wins to advance to the quarterfinals. Since her 2025 semifinal win over Pegula, Sabalenka has won 11 consecutive sets at the U.S. Open. Pegula was the only opponent to win a set against Sabalenka in the 2025 U.S. Open.

How good is this!?

Sabalenka has won both matches played against Noskova. Tuesday is the first Grand Slam match between Noskova and Sabalenka. Sabalenka beat Noskova in straight sets at Adelaide International in 2023 and Indian Wells in 2026.

Pegula has lost only one set in the 2026 U.S. Open. Navarro is having a transformative U.S. Open after struggling earlier in 2026. After three-set wins in the first two rounds, Navarro beat two-time Grand Slam runner-up Karolina Muchova in the third round.

Pegula has won all four matches played against Navarro. Tuesday will be the first Grand Slam match between Navarro and Pegula. Two of the four matches played between Navarro and Pegula went three sets. Three of the four matches played between Navarro and Pegula were at Masters events in Miami in 2024, Beijing in 2025 and Cincinnati in 2026.
