Andrew Kibe Confirms Peter Salasya Boxing Match as Oga Obinna Exits Fight Plans

Andrew Kibe has confirmed that his highly anticipated boxing match against Mumias East MP Peter Salasya will go ahead in December, despite Oga Obinna no longer being involved in organising the bout.

Kibe revealed the latest development during an interview published on Friday, September 4, saying preparations for the fight are continuing under a different platform.

According to the former radio presenter, the fight contract is already on his phone and the arrangements are progressing without Obinna.

“Obinna is out. I don’t want to work with him. Same idea, but different platform.”

The proposed fight was initially tied to Obinna’s Vurugu 3 event after Salasya challenged Kibe to settle their differences in the boxing ring.

Obinna accepted the challenge in June and initially offered a KSh2 million purse, with the possibility of sponsorship increasing the amount to KSh5 million.

However, Kibe has since opted not to stage the fight under Obinna’s platform, arguing that the financial potential of the bout could be better maximised elsewhere.

“There’s a lot of money to be made in that shit. Why would I go give my whole birthright to Obinna?”

Kibe added that the new arrangement could include an escrow system as the parties finalise the financial terms surrounding the contest.

The latest decision follows concerns Kibe had previously raised about working with Obinna.

In July, Kibe disclosed that he had received communication from one of Obinna’s managers indicating that preparations for the fight were underway. He, however, questioned whether Obinna could successfully deliver the event.

“I don’t know if I can trust Obinna to see this thing through.”

At the time, Kibe had left the door open to working with Obinna, noting that the financial returns would be an important factor in determining whether he would participate.

He has now made it clear that the fight will proceed independently of Obinna.

Despite the change in promoter, Kibe has stressed that his showdown with Salasya has not been called off.

“In December, I’m going to be getting into a boxing ring with Salasya.”

The 50-year-old said he intends to step up his training ahead of the bout and will work with Barak Jaccuzi and his trainer as he prepares for the contest.

Kibe also dismissed concerns about his age, saying he does not feel 50 and believes his reach could provide an advantage when he faces the younger lawmaker.

Obinna had previously played a key role in efforts to turn the Kibe-Salasya challenge into an organised boxing event.

Following Salasya’s challenge, the entertainer offered to stage the contest under Vurugu 3 and publicly urged Kibe to accept the invitation.

Salasya later asked Obinna to organise a live contract-signing ceremony, with the proposed fight expected to take place in December.

Obinna also shared messages showing his attempts to secure the two fighters for the event and repeatedly urged Kibe to sign the proposed contract.

With Obinna now out of the picture, Kibe says the same December showdown will proceed under a different platform.
