India has climbed to the fifth spot in the overall standings after 17-year-old Kumkum Anil Mohod won a historic gold medal in the women’s individual recurve archery event on Saturday. India now has 17 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze medals, taking its overall tally to 77 medals.

Kumkum defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin 6-5 in a dramatic shoot-off in the final. With the score tied at 5-5, Oh shot an eight in the shoot-off, while Kumkum produced a perfect 10 to seal the gold. The victory makes her the first Indian to win an individual women’s recurve gold at the Asian Games and also secures an LA28 Olympic quota for India.

The teenager had earlier beaten reigning world champion Kang Chae-young 6-4 in the quarterfinals before defeating China’s Zhu Jingyi, the 2025 World Championship silver medallist, 6-2 in the semifinal. She became the first Indian woman to reach an Asian Games final in the individual recurve event before completing the run with gold.
