Aston Villa and Fulham were both dumped out of the EFL Cup in midweek and will be looking to bounce back in the Premier League, in which the pair have improved after slow starts to their respective campaigns.

The Villans have a tremendous home record against these opponents and will be looking to extend that in this clash.

The youngster has been a real bright spark for Fulham this season and is averaging 2.88 shots per 90 minutes.

Aston Villa's experienced midfielder is one of the most fouled players in the Premier League and looks a rock-solid selection to pick up another.

The hosts' left-back has already been booked twice this season and could be vulnerable against the tricky Oscar Bobb.

Visits to Villa Park have been a scary prospect for Fulham over the years and the Cottagers look set for further misery in the West Midlands when they take on Unai Emery’s side this Halloween.

Fulham have won only one of their 18 Premier League visits to the ground and a 3-1 loss last season made it five away defeats in a row against Aston Villa.

Both teams were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek, with Villa’s winning run ending against Bournemouth while Alvaro Arbeloa’s men were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace.

Before that defeat, the hosts had won six of their last seven games in all competitions, including victories over Manchester City, Newcastle and Tottenham.

However, a slow start to the season means that they are still just ninth in the Premier League table despite their recent upturn in fortunes.

Fulham also had a poor start to the new campaign but back-to-back 1-0 league wins over Hull and Coventry have improved the mood around the club.

To some extent, Arbeloa appears to have weathered the early pressure over his position. But plenty of tough tests await so there can be no time for complacency, particularly as their early-season fixture list has been friendly and is about to get a lot tougher.

The Spaniard has managed to implement his style of play quickly. Fulham’s 58 per cent possession ranks fifth in the league, while only Manchester City have averaged more passes per attacking sequence than their 4.71.

To add to that, only City and Arsenal have had more touches in their opponents’ box than the Cottagers’ 260 and they rank eighth in the league in both shots and shots on target.

Frustratingly for Arbeloa, that has not been reflected in their attacking output, with only the bottom three scoring fewer than the visitors’ eight goals.

An inability to put teams away has been a theme this season and makes them vulnerable against a Villa side who have clicked going forward lately.

The home side have scored 20 goals in their last eight outings and rested most of their big hitters in their midweek cup defeat on the south coast.

This could be a competitive affair and Fulham can put up a fight, but their away form leaves plenty to be desired and Villa look a more clinical team right now.

The Cottagers appear unlikely to exorcise the demons of their previous trips to Villa Park.

Nicolas Jackson has been a revelation for Aston Villa since his summer arrival and the striker is worth supporting to get on the scoresheet once again in this clash.

Jackson was a real handful against Manchester City last weekend and has seven goals in all competitions already this season. He is fancied to add to that tally.
