Bartunkova storms into China Open semi-finals

Bartunkova booked her place in the China Open semi-finals with a dominant victory over Karolina Muchova on Thursday. The world number 34 defeated her Czech compatriot 6-3, 6-0 in only 66 minutes. She will face either Mirra Andreeva or Ekaterina Alexandrova in the next round.
The 20-year-old controlled the opening set after winning five straight games in just 19 minutes. Seventh-seeded Muchova struggled to match Bartunkova’s intensity and could not recover from the early setback. Although Muchova saved five set points, Bartunkova eventually closed out the first set.
Moreover, Bartunkova carried the same momentum into the second set and quickly built another five-game advantage. Muchova continued to struggle as Bartunkova kept forcing errors and attacking with confidence. The Czech player eventually sealed a commanding 6-0 set to complete a remarkable victory.
The result adds to Bartunkova’s impressive run in Beijing, where she had already eliminated second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Her latest performance further strengthens her growing campaign at the tournament. Meanwhile, Muchova could not find a response despite her higher seeding and experience.
Bartunkova described the victory as a “dream come true” after producing what she called an unbelievable performance. She praised Muchova as both a great player and a great person following their all-Czech encounter. Bartunkova said she focused on playing her best tennis and was pleased with the result.
Andreeva and Alexandrova were scheduled to meet later Thursday in an all-Russian quarter-final. The winner will determine Bartunkova’s opponent in the semi-finals. With her latest victory, the 20-year-old now moves closer to a potential China Open title.
