Batting blitz sets up commanding T20 Cup win for Dolphins

KwaZulu-Natal’s Hollywoodbets Dolphins record 239 for five from their 20 overs, which included half centuries from Bryce Parsons and Grant Roelofsen, helped the home side to a bonus point 104 run YesPlay Pro20 Cup win over the Northern Cape Heat at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Wednesday.

The Dolphins bounced back emphatically after losing to the DP World Lions on Sunday.

Bryce Parsons (83 off 38) and Grant Roelofsen (72 off 33) were relentless with the bat after being sent in, posting a formidable 239/5 from their 20 overs.

The pair put on a commanding second-wicket partnership after Khaya Zondo had provided the Dolphins with a flying start, scoring 47 from 27 balls.

With the daunting task of 240 for victory, the Heat struggled to establish momentum in their chase.

Nonelela Yikha provided some resistance with a brisk 43 off 23 balls, while Jordan Neil added 27 from just 13 deliveries.

Okuhle Cele was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, returning 3/28, while Parsons made an all-round performance with 2/22 and Sean Gilson recorded 2/8 from 1.4 overs.

The Heat were eventually bowled out for 135 in 16.4 overs, handing the Dolphins a comprehensive 104-run victory and their first win of the competition.

The match between World Sports Betting Eastern Storm and Mpumalanga Rhinos was abandoned without a ball bowled due to inclement weather in Gauteng.

The YesPlay Pro20 Cup action continues Thursday, 1 October, when the Garden Route Badgers host Eastern Cape Iinyathi at Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn at 13h00.

Iinyathi head into the fixture on the back of their impressive victory over the North West Dragons earlier in the week.
