BCCI Books Separate Hotel For India Men’s Team At Asian Games 2026; Women To Stay In Games Facilities

The BCCI has arranged separate accommodation for India’s men’s cricket team at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, while the women’s team will continue to stay in facilities provided by the Games organisers.
The development comes amid concerns over accommodation arrangements at the continental sporting event, which has seen athletes and officials housed across hotels, temporary facilities and a docked cruise ship rather than a traditional athletes’ village.
According to a report, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board decided to make its own accommodation arrangements because the men’s cricket contingent is larger than the number of members permitted under the official Asian Games allocation. The size of the support staff was cited as the main reason behind the decision.
Saikia said the BCCI did not want to segregate members of the men’s team during the tournament and therefore arranged accommodation that could house the entire contingent together.
The decision means the men’s team will not use the standard accommodation facilities allocated to it by the Aichi-Nagoya organisers.
The Indian women’s cricket team will remain in accommodation provided by the Asian Games organising committee.
According to Saikia, the women’s contingent consists of 20 members, which is within the permitted accommodation allocation. As a result, there was no need for the BCCI to make separate arrangements for the women’s team. The women’s side has already begun its Asian Games campaign, with India taking on Japan in the quarter-finals on September 18.
The BCCI's decision comes as accommodation has emerged as one of the major logistical issues surrounding the 2026 Asian Games.
Unlike many previous editions, Aichi-Nagoya does not have a conventional central athletes’ village. Organisers are using a combination of hotels, temporary accommodation and a cruise ship to house the thousands of athletes and officials attending the Games.
Around 4,000 to 5,000 athletes and officials are expected to stay aboard the Costa Serena cruise ship at Nagoya Port, while temporary container-style accommodation is also being used.
Several participating countries have raised concerns about accommodation availability and facilities. India has also faced challenges, with some athletes reportedly staying considerable distances from their competition venues.
For the cricket board, keeping the men’s players and their support staff together appears to have been a key consideration.
The BCCI had previously agreed to use organiser-designated hotels after discussions over accommodation. The latest decision, however, means the board has now opted to arrange its own facility for the larger men's contingent.
The development does not apply to the women's team, which remains within the Games' accommodation limit and will continue using the facilities provided by the organisers. The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games officially begin on September 19, with competitions in several sports already underway. The Games will run until October 4.
