Labelled as one of the most dramatic moments of the season, the Bears secured a sensational 13-12 victory over the Panthers at Aretere Park, booking their place in next Saturday’s final.

Rugby Union coordinator Ben Koteka said that at mid-first half the Bears struck first when first 5/8 Basil Matapo kicked a penalty. Number 8 Heath Heather then crossed for the opening try, giving the Bears an 8-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Panthers responded strongly with winger Ryan Daniel crossing twice and first 5/8 Daniel Toa adding the conversion. The Panthers turned the game around to lead 12-8 heading into the final minutes.

“But the Bears weren't done yet. With the clock ticking into the 82nd minute , Arorangi won crucial momentum through a powerful driving maul, with [ex-CI rep] hooker Francis Smith grounding the ball to complete a dramatic late comeback and seal a 13 - 12 victory.”

Meanwhile, the Avatiu Eels also powered their way into the final after a commanding 54-19 victory over the Takuvaine ‘TKV’ Reds in the first semi-final on home ground.

Koteka said the Eels established early dominance, going into halftime with a 21-7 lead and never looking back.

Tafa Reeves was the star of the show, crossing the line three times for the Eels with additional tries from James Tofilau, Nuku Tetava, Nathan Nabou, Tomasi Vunibola, and Tama Nicholas. The kicking duties were shared effectively, with Tama Nicholas converting six and T Vunibola adding further points from the boot.

Viiga Ruepena, Josj Kori and Alowesi Vulailai scored tries, with Ruepena and Koroi contributing conversions. Despite their efforts, the Reds struggled to contain the Eels' relentless attack and clinical finishing.

This Saturday, the Bears will face the Avatiu Eels in the grand final of the Rarotonga Super Club 15s at Victoria Park, Tupapa.
