Beloved Cowboy Josh Davis Needs Our Help

Wyoming Hall of Fame basketball player diagnosed with Mantle Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Beloved Cowboy Josh Davis Needs Our Help

LARAMIE — A beloved Cowboy needs our help.

Josh Davis, who rocked the rims inside the Arena-Auditorium from 1998-2002 and helped bring a pair of Mountain West Championships to the high plains, was recently diagnosed with Mantle Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a disease for which there is no current cure.

“In August 2026, my brother, Josh Davis, went for a routine medical check. The doctor had concerns regarding swollen lymph nodes,” Beth Brewer-Weber wrote on a recently-launched GoFundMe page. Tests were ordered immediately and that Friday night they received the news he has blood cancer.”

The family’s current goal is to raise $200,000 to ease the stress on Davis’ wife Jessica and their three children Avery (20), Addison (17) and Will (11).

Davis, 46, could potentially have decades of life ahead of him, his sister penned, with the aid of vigilant medical treatment.

“Treatment begins with 4 rounds of in-patient chemotherapy,” Brewer-Weber continued. “Chemotherapy is very hard on the body and requires time to recover. Then there will be additional testing and treatment with the goal of putting the cancer into remission and hopefully keeping it in remission as long as possible to allow time between treatments.”

A Salem, Ore., native, Davis appeared in 119 games in the Wyoming basketball uniform, averaging 21.2 points per night over his four-year career. The 6-foot-8 forward helped lead the Cowboys to an upset victory over Gonzaga in the opening round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament.

Davis’ double-double — 11 points and 14 rebounds — propelled Wyoming into a second-round date with Arizona. His five blocks in that 73-66 win over the No. 6-seeded Bulldogs is still talked about today.

“Wyoming is a special place for the Davis family,” Brewer-Weber wrote. “It was there Josh met his wife, Jessica, who was not only an accomplished member of the soccer team but is also beautiful, tough and caring. Their oldest daughter, Avery, is currently a junior at the university.”

Davis was inducted into the school’s athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

Chris McMillian was Davis’ teammate and roommate in Laramie. The current men’s assistant said it may be a lofty goal to raise that amount of money, but he’s confident the Wyoming faithful with rally around one of its own.

“I’ve known Josh since I was 17,” McMillian said. “This hurts more than you know.”

Though he went undrafted, Davis played in the NBA for five seasons, suiting up in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Houston, Phoenix and, most recently, Memphis, in 2011-12. He also made a number of stops in other leagues and foreign countries.

He has since volunteered as the boys varsity assistant coach at Forge Christian High School in Arvada, Colo., for the past 14 years. The entire family is very involved at Faith Christian Academy.

“Josh and Jessica pour their lives into their family, friends and community,” his sister continued. “Please help us give back and support them with your love, prayers and donations.”
