The World Grand Prix continues with another stacked night of action in Leicester on Tuesday as the first round comes to an end.

Former world champions Luke Humphries and Gary Anderson and Premier League stars Gian van Veen and Chris Dobey are among the star names looking to progress.

Luke Humphries has been doing his best to challenge Luke Littler’s dominance this season, and when the Nuke hasn’t collected tournament titles, Cool Hand has been cleaning up.

The Newbury arrowsmith has won three Players Championship events this season and there have also been wins on the World Series and European Tour.

Humphries teamed up with Littler to win the World Cup for England, and while it is easy to be distracted by the Nuke’s individual dominance, Humphries is operating near to the peak of his powers.

The 2024 world champion is averaging 100.13 on the Pro Tour this season and Cool Hand should be far too accurate for World Grand Prix first-round opponent Dave Chisnall.

Chizzy is not the force of old and the St Helens man is not even breaking into the top 60 in terms of floor averages this term.

Chisnall failed to qualify for the World Grand Prix last season and has won only one match in his three previous visits to this double-in event so backing Humphries to win 2-0 is the standout play on night two.

Ante-post odds of 25-1 underestimated Gary Anderson’s chances of glory at the World Grand Prix and the Flying Scotsman can steam past first-round opponent Damon Heta.

The Scot has been playing well this season, reaching the final of the Hungarian Darts Trophy on the Euro Tour and going on a run to the last eight at the World Matchplay.

Anderson averaged 101.32 in his 16-13 Winter Gardens loss to Dirk van Duijvenbode and the two-time world champion has been flirting with a major success.

The Flying Scotsman is putting up figures of 97.99 on the Pro Tour this season, a mark bettered only by Chris Dobey, Humphries and Gerwyn Price, and the 55-year-old should have a clear edge on Damon Heta.

The Heat has failed to win a match in five previous visits to the World Grand Prix, where he has suffered first-round losses to Luke Woodhouse, Mike de Decker, Ryan Searle, Joe Cullen and James Wade. Anderson is worth backing to inflict another opening round defeat on the Aussie.

The World Grand Prix features 32 players competing in a straight knockout tournament. The matches are set-play and players must double-in before starting their scoring.

World champion Luke Littler was a best-priced 5-6 to win the World Grand Prix but crashed out in the first round. Luke Humphries is the new 10-3 favourite, with 5-1 Gerwyn Price next best ahead of 9-1 Nathan Aspinall and 10-1 shots Gian van Veen, Ross Smith and Wessel Nijman.

The World Grand Prix will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event.

Luke Littler won last year's World Grand Prix, beating Luke Humphries 6-1 in the final.
