Brendan Allen’s UFC Vegas 122 win moved him closer to record set by veteran who retired at the event

Gerald Meerschaert will not add to his submission tally, but Brendan Allen likely will increase his.
Both men were in action at Saturday’s UFC Vegas 122 event at the Meta Apex, with ‘GM3’ returning in the featured prelim and ‘All In’ closing out the card in the main event.
They endured drastically different results on October 10. A few hours after Meerschaert retired following his sixth straight loss, the event concluded with Allen submitting Christian Leroy Duncan.
The pair are the two most prolific submission specialists in UFC history, but the order they are currently in on the tap-out leaderboard may change down the line.

‘GM3’ ended his career on a lengthy losing skid, but he will always be remembered for his Brazilian jiu-jitsu talents.
Incredible, 29 of his 37 wins in professional MMA came via submission. His last nine wins in the UFC were submissions, making it nine years since he last won a fight in any other way.
Having been unable to add to his tally since 2024, Meerschaert has exited the sport with a total of 11 submissions in the UFC middleweight division.
That puts him top of the all-time leaderboard, but the distance to second place closed on Saturday night.
Allen’s rear-naked choke against Duncan moved him to seven submissions in the 185-pound weight class. He is now just four away from matching and five from surpassing Meerschaert’s record.
Given that he is just 30 years old, ‘All In’ will certainly have the chance to put his name into the history books by moving past ‘GM3’ and setting a new target for the other BJJ specialists to pursue.
Three years before forcing Duncan to tap out at UFC Vegas 122, Allen recorded four consecutive submission wins over Paul Craig, Bruno Silva, Andre Muniz, and Krzysztof Jotko.
That run has Allen tied with Charles Oliveira for the fourth-longest submission streak in UFC history.
He had to wait a while for his next tap-out, but ‘All In’ finally showcased his dangerous ground game again to defend his spot in the top five of the Meta UFC middleweight rankings.
