Brian Ortega explains ‘freak accident’ that led to him withdrawing from UFC 331 clash

Brian Ortega has opened up about the incident that resulted in him pulling out of UFC 331.

This coming weekend, the UFC returns to Los Angeles, California, for UFC 331 headlined by a flyweight title fight.

Also scheduled to compete on the card was Brian Ortega, who was supposed to make his first appearance since last August when he fought Aljamain Sterling.

Despite that, ‘T-City’ withdrew from his fight against Renato Moicano this Tuesday morning, causing slight uproar.

In the past two years, Ortega has pulled out of three fights, having already pulled out of his scheduled fight against Moicano earlier this year.

It’s fair to say the Brazilian contender was extremely unhappy with the 35-year-old, saying he lost the ‘easiest money fight in the division’.

And now, the former two-time title challenger has explained what caused his injury, claiming that it was a ‘freak accident’ while he was finishing his training camp.

“For all of you who are saying I pulled out because I’m scared, I’m ducking or whatever, you guys are stupid people,” Ortega said in a video on his social media.

“I’m not even gonna sugar coat that s—, you guys are some dumba—-. For those of you who are mad because I pulled out and you genuinely wanna watch me fight, and you’re mad at the situation, for you guys I’m sorry.

“That s— isn’t cool, this is not something I expected to happen, it’s something, I just can’t hide this,” Ortega said as he pointed at his injured eyebrow.

“I would have to see the commission today and I would have to hide this today from them and it’s just not gonna happen… This is a freak accident that happened doing jiu jitsu. I wasn’t sparring, I was doing jiu jitsu.

“Going over the last details, the last game plan, getting a last sweat and then this f—— headbutt happened. At the time they said it was a small cut, I was happy, but then we found out how many stitches it required and how big it was, we just can’t hide that, I tried and wanted to… I was still gonna go out there,” he continued.

Despite the disappointment of withdrawing from another fight, according to Ortega, he is already in conversations with the promotion regarding a different fight.
