The longtime Los Angeles home of late NBA player Jason Collins has been listed for $3.75 million, months after the former basketball star died from glioblastoma at age 47. Collins lived in the Brentwood-area property from 2004 until his death in May, making it his home through more than two decades of his personal life and NBA career.Collins purchased the house for $2.39 million, according to PropertyShark records. The property is now being sold by a relative of the former NBA center, while Coldwell Banker Realty agent Tania Ferris brought the home to market earlier this month.

“Jason Collins loved and called this beautiful property his home for more than 22 years and through the defining chapters of his life and career,” Ferris said, according to Mansion Global. The home on Promontory Road is located roughly 30 minutes south of Collins’ childhood neighborhood of Northridge. It sits within MountainGate, a guard-gated country club community nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains.Ferris said the community was particularly suited to Collins, offering privacy and security along with hiking trails, a community pool and spa, landscaped common areas and optional access to MountainGate Country Club’s golf, tennis and social amenities.

Collins spent 13 seasons in the NBA, with his longest stint coming with the New Jersey Nets, where he played his first seven seasons. In 2013, Collins became the first active male athlete in one of the four major North American professional sports leagues to publicly come out as gay when he announced his sexuality in a Sports Illustrated cover story. He returned to the Nets in 2014, by then based in Brooklyn, for the final season of his career. His return made him the first publicly gay athlete to play in any of North America’s four major professional sports leagues. That same year, Collins was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

Built in 1989, the red-tile-roof residence spans just over 5,000 square feet. The main level features two double-height living rooms, each with a fireplace. One has a dining nook, while glass doors in the other open directly toward the pool area. The home also includes a formal dining room and a spacious kitchen with an island, bar seating and an additional dining area. All four bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The primary suite includes its own fireplace, a pitched ceiling, private veranda and two walk-in closets. Its bathroom features a sunken bathtub, adding to the property's resort-like feel.

The backyard is designed for outdoor entertaining, featuring a swimming pool, a partially covered patio and a dedicated barbecue area. The listing also boasts an “exceptionally large” hot tub, offering enough space for exercise as well as relaxation.Set against a mountain backdrop within a private community, the property combines the feel of a secluded retreat with convenient access to Los Angeles. Its expansive indoor and outdoor spaces further add to its appeal.Collins’ longtime residence is now on the market for $3.75 million, more than two decades after he purchased the property and made it the setting for some of the most significant years of his life and career.
