Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s faces told the whole story as they sat on the bench and watched Team USA struggle in a 76-66 win against Spain at the 2026 FIBA World Cup.

Team USA’s 20-year winning streak at the FIBA World Cup remains intact after they defeated Spain in the 2026 FIBA World Cup semi-finals to book a matchup against France in the final.

However, the USA’s win did not look nearly as convincing as many had previously anticipated, as Spain had the U.S. teetering until a 10-point fourth quarter difference put the game to bed.

A fan closely recorded Clark and Reese’s reactions on the bench as they watched their veteran compatriots struggle mightily in the first quarter.

Spain started the game hot, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. Clark and Reese were reacting to the first-quarter run until Clark checked in with under four minutes left as Spain led 16-11.

Clark’s arrival led to much better play for the USA, who regained control even though Clark herself had a terrible individual outing with one point, three missed shots, and only one assist.

Reese ended the game with five points (5-for-6 FT) and three rebounds as she featured in a rotational role behind the veterans on the roster.

While a 10-point win indicates a big margin, the way they earned this win should worry Team USA coaches, players, and fans.

MORE WOMEN'S FIBA WORLD CUP STORIES

They already have one ugly win over Italy from the group stages where the American offense was neutralised by an active Italian defense.

Spain holding the USA to 3-18 from three proves that what happened against Italy was not a fluke.

The biggest contributor in Team USA’s win over Spain was the 35 free throws the U.S. got compared to Spain’s paltry 11.

Reese and Clark’s reactions on the bench were justified, as the starters simply aren’t playing with the energy needed to dominate this tournament.

Given how much more dominant USA’s final opponent, France, has looked in this tournament, an upset might be on the cards.
