Carrick told to make Man Utd coaching addition that would ‘shake things up’, he’s ‘unbelievable’

Michael Carrick needs something right now to jolt Man Utd out of their stupor, and he’s been told just the right man for it.

It would be a damaging look for Ineos if they were to sack Michael Carrick less than 15 games into his permanent tenure, when they were the ones who made him permanent from interim.

Therefore, Carrick will get time unless the results get completely untenable, which is dangerously close to happening.

The next best thing is freshening things up and getting a new voice in the dressing room, and he has been told the perfect man for the job.

Roy Keane hasn’t had the easiest relationship with Man Utd in his punditry spell, and he even got into it with Carrick in an unnecessary and largely one-sided feud last season.

However, nobody can doubt his leadership credentials, and he’s actually had quite a respectable career in coaching during spells with the Irish national team and a head coach stint at Sunderland.

We want Michael Carrick to SUCCEED at Man Utd – but the season has started badly…

Keane is the type of guy who can be the yin to Carrick’s yang because he demands excellence every single day, according to former Red Devil Quinton Fortune.

Speaking to Boyle Sports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Fortune said that Keane would be an ‘unbelievable’ addition to Carrick’s coaching staff.

He said: “Roy Keane coaching at Man Utd would be a lot of fun. I was fortunate to play alongside Roy, and he was an unbelievable leader. He pushed every team to success and raised everyone’s standards.

“I have the utmost respect for Roy. If he speaks out, it’s because he wants excellence. People talk about walking the walk and talking the talk. Roy did both at the highest level on the pitch.

“Having him around at Man Utd would shake things up and be a lot of fun.”

While the logic behind Fortune’s recommendation to sign Keane is sound, there is already a huge fatigue in the fanbase about ex-players.

Most of them, like Keane, Scholes, and Neville, have soured their ties with the club due to their remarks in their capacity as pundits.

A large majority of fans just want a clean slate with someone who doesn’t keep talking about the good old days, and actually wants the club to move forward.

There is already less patience with Carrick than there ever was with Amorim, despite his record being much better, just because fans are wary of an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer repeat.

It’s difficult to see how adding another former Man Utd player to the coaching staff will soothe any concerns that the club is still stuck chasing its tail, which has “past glory days” written over it.
