Chargers Terminate Contract of Towering 24-Year-Old WR

The Los Angeles Chargers have waived wide receiver Dalevon Campbell from injured reserve, ending his latest stint with the team after a leg injury derailed his 2026 training camp, via the NFL transaction log.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Campbell was waived/injured on Aug. 30 as Los Angeles trimmed its roster to 53 players. He left a late-August practice unable to put weight on his left leg and finished the preseason with three catches for 48 yards on seven targets.

After going unclaimed on waivers, he reverted to IR. The Chargers then waived him from IR on Sept. 9, opening the door to an injury settlement and making him a free agent.

Campbell’s size has always been the calling card. He offers a rare frame for a wideout who can win jump balls and stretch the field. That combination helped him stick around longer than many undrafted receivers.

He signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in May 2025 after a tryout following a college career that ran through Illinois, Nevada and South Carolina.

In 60 game,s he recorded 88 receptions for 1,471 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by a 26.0-yard average as a Gamecock in 2024 and honorable-mention All-Mountain West honors at Nevada in 2023.

His first training camp with Los Angeles produced a strong preseason: eight catches for 147 yards, leading the team. The Chargers still waived him at final cuts. Carolina claimed him the next day.

Campbell appeared in two regular-season games for the Panthers before a hamstring injury led to his release in mid-October. The Chargers brought him back to the practice squad days later, elevated him a few times late in the year, and signed him to a reserve/futures contract in January 2026.

That second chance ended with the same roster crunch that ended his first. Los Angeles is well-stocked at receiver with Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and others, leaving little room for a developmental big body who was still polishing his routes.

Campbell’s vertical speed and catch radius gave him a niche as a deep and 50-50 threat, but consistency and health never aligned for a lasting 53-man spot.

For a player who has bounced between two teams in two seasons, the latest waiver is another chapter rather than a finale. Teams that value size on the outside will take a look.

At 24, Campbell still has the physical tools that first earned him a shot in Los Angeles.

Whether another club decides those tools are worth a practice-squad or injured-reserve flier will determine if the 6-4 receiver gets one more chance to turn flashes into a roster spot.
