Charley Hull suggests if she wants to go up against Nelly Korda at this year’s Solheim Cup

Charley Hull has suggested that she would enjoy having the opportunity to face Nelly Korda in the Sunday singles at the Solheim Cup, having beaten her in 2024.

You would be forgiven for thinking that Korda’s week at Bernardus will have a big say on Team USA’s chances over the coming days.

Will there be any big surprises in the Netherlands?

The world number one was exceptional over the first two days at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club two years ago.

Stacy Lewis sent Nelly Korda out in the top match in all four sessions she played in Virginia. She went on to deliver three points as the Americans won the trophy back.

Her only loss of the week came when she faced Charley Hull in the singles. It had been a much more mixed week for the Brit before the final day, with two wins and two losses.

But it was Hull who stole the show on the banks of Lake Manassas. She beat Korda 6&4 to give Europe a much-needed point.

It was not enough for Suzann Pettersen’s team on that occasion. But speaking ahead of this week’s event, Hull suggested that she would relish another opportunity.

“Yeah, playing Nelly Korda at that time was really good. It was so much fun. I came out and played pretty well. Every dog has its day, and I also did that day,” she said.

“But she’s had a pretty incredible season so far this year, and if it came down to singles, it would be a really good match. I have a lot of respect for Nelly. She’s a great world number one, and she’s a great golfer and anything can happen in match play.”

Hull is already one of the most prolific performers in the Solheim Cup, having won 16.5 points across her career.

The singles is actually her worst format. Remarkably, she has a 6-3-1 record in both foursomes and fourballs.

LIV 1.0 looks to be officially dead…

Meanwhile, she has won three, lost three, and halved one of her seven singles matches. Her emphatic victory over Korda was her first since beating Brittany Lang in 2017.

Korda has actually lost her last two singles matches, with Carlota Ciganda securing Europe the vital point at Finca Cortesin in 2021. She had won her first two.

It will be very interesting to see whether Anna Nordqvist and Angela Stanford decide to put their biggest stars at the top of the order. Certainly, plenty of fans will be hoping to see a rematch.
