Chris Weidman claims Amanda Nunes vs Kayla Harrison at UFC 334 could be ‘similar’ to UFC 331 matchup

UFC legend Chris Weidman made an eye-opening comparison between the upcoming UFC 334 showdown involving Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison and a recent UFC 331 fight.
Kayla Harrison will make the first defence of her UFC bantamweight championship against the returning Amanda Nunes at Madison Square Garden in November.
The 36-year-old American won the bantamweight title from Julianna Pena at UFC 316 in 2025, but Harrison has been sidelined due to her neck surgery in January.
Nunes, on the other hand, has ended her retirement from MMA and is now looking to recapture the bantamweight championship that she vacated back in 2023.

Jorge Masvidal highlighted the different styles that Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison both possess ahead of their UFC bantamweight title fight at UFC 334.
“They’re both like polar opposites of each other,” he said on UFC on Paramount+.
“One is a terminator on the feet; one is a T-Rex on the ground.”
Chris Weidman interjected during the UFC 334 preview and he spotlighted Arman Tsarukyan’s encounter with Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 as a recent example.
“Yeah, it’s kind of like Arman Tsarukyan versus Ruffy,” he explained.
“It’s a similar matchup where Ruffy is just so damn dangerous on the feet. And I don’t care how good Arman’s striking has got — he is a fish out of the water on the feet with Ruffy.
“I think almost most guys are going to be a fish out of the water against Ruffy on the feet.
“But when you get into those clinch positions and you get it down to the ground, it flips the other side, you know.”
Nunes has not fought inside the octagon since her successful bantamweight title defense against Irene Aldana at UFC 289, which ended in a unanimous decision win.
Former UFC star Masvidal feels that Nunes won’t have the best time in the octagon against Harrison if she is tested like she was against Julianna Pena at UFC 269.
“But I don’t think she’d be smiling when she knows she’s going to fight these next-level grapplers,” he said.
“You know, like Julianna, that’s probably what had her worried and why she wasn’t comfortable.
“She’s like, ‘If this girl gets me down, which is a strong girl, great jiu-jitsu, I’m going to be out of my element.’
“And I think that was a problem. And I know she knows with Kayla. It’s like, ‘If I don’t keep this fight on the feet, I’m going to be in trouble, you know?’”
Nunes lost her 12-fight winning streak and the bantamweight title to Pena in 2021 before the 38-year-old MMA legend avenged her defeat in the rematch at UFC 277 in 2022.
