Christian Gonzalez Contract Details: Patriots Star Becomes Highest-Paid CB in NFL History
Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots took contract negotiations down to the wire, but they managed to end their dispute before the first game of the 2026 season.
The Pats and their 24-year-old star have reportedly reached an agreement on a four-year extension that will make Gonzalez the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
After months of speculation about Gonzalez's status, the two sides were able to find common ground and eliminate any lingering concerns less than 48 hours before New England faces Seattle in a Super Bowl rematch.
Here are the full details on the structure of Gonzalez's contract extension.
Gonzalez and the Patriots reached an agreement on a four-year, $135 million deal, permultiplereports. The extension reportedly includes $102 million in guaranteed money.
New England had not yet made an official announcement about the extension as of early Tuesday morning, but it did seem to acknowledge the reports, tweeting out a photo of Gonzalez.
Gonzalez, the No. 17 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has set a new bar at his position, surpassing the previous record-setting deal that Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon signed last month (four years, $132 million with more than $101 million guaranteed).
Patriots vs. Seahawks is scheduled to start at 8:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The game will be played at Lumen Field in Seattle.
