Colby Covington already has a gripe with his new employer RAF after leaving UFC on bad terms

Colby Covington is unhappy about his upcoming trip to the Middle East.

The former UFC welterweight champion looks set to be a pillar of the Real American Freestyle roster moving forward.

After Covington announced his UFC retirement, having had his wish to compete at the White House ignored, the Miami native began to put his focus on the surging wrestling organization.

‘Chaos’ is already a champion under the RAF banner. But much to his dismay, the All-American wrestler’s next defense won’t be taking place on United States soil.

Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev will clash for the cruiserweight crossover championship on November 14.

Covington beat Arman Tsarukyan this past July to claim the RAF cruiserweight crossover championship. He made his first successful defense a couple of months later against another UFC star, Belal Muhammad.

The American’s toughest test so far could await him in the RAF Abu Dhabi main event on November 14, as Covington faces a challenge from Khamzat Chimaev.

The event will be very close to home for the ex-UFC middleweight champion, and it is safe to say that ‘Chaos’ is not pleased about being made to travel so far for his title defense.

“Yeah. it’s not my favorite thing in the world,” Covington said of competing in Abu Dhabi during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“This is Real American Freestyle. We’re a company based out of America. I am the American champion and the first cruiserweight crossover champion of RAF history.

“I am the draw of this company. I’ve put it on my back, I am putting everything behind it. This guy (Chimaev) doesn’t care about the company, he’s just trying to do cash grabs.

“I am actually invested in this company,” he continued. “I want to see the growth of this company more than any company on Earth.

“I’m hoping that my future matches can stay in America, because this is the greatest country on God’s green Earth.”

Before finding success in RAF with five wins this year, Covington endured a difficult run inside the Octagon.

The 38-year-old lost four of his last six UFC fights, with his only wins in that period coming against two men who were quick to wash out of the promotion soon after, Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal.

Covington’s final UFC bout was a brutal stoppage loss at the hands of Joaquin Buckley in Tampa almost two years ago.
