Conor Benn sent brutal five-word warning ahead of Ryan Garcia grudge match

Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia will meet on Saturday night in a mouthwatering grudge match for the latter's WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas
Conor Benn sent brutal five-word warning ahead of Ryan Garcia grudge match

Ryan Garcia is coming with 'mean intentions' and has vowed to KO Conor Benn in under five rounds.

The two boxing stars will go head-to-head in Las Vegas on Saturday night - with Garcia putting his WBC welterweight title on the line. The 'Destroyer' will be looking to turn his dream of winning a title into reality - 34 years after his father Nigel Benn first won the coveted green belt after a vicious knockout of Mauro Galvano.

But Benn faces a potential battle with the scales ahead of his first fight at 147lb in over four years. The 29-year-old year comes into the clash off the back of a points victory over Regis Prograis - which was contested at a catchweight of 150lb. Benn has not really had to worry too much about cutting weight prior to his clash with Prograis after competing at middleweight for his two epic encounters with Chris Eubank Jr last year.

Despite having to boil himself down in order for his fight with Garcia to be made official, Benn is leaving no stone unturned in preparations for the world title bout. Welterweight champion Garcia welcomes the challenge, but will be in no mood to mess around as soon as the first bell sounds.

In interview with ESPN, Garcia said: “I’m here to make a statement. I’ve not been shy about that. I’ve said five rounds and below. That means I’m coming with mean intentions and I’m not here to dance my way to a decision, but I’m also not here to be stupid, at the end of the day. But would it be amazing? Yes.”

He added: “I don’t care how confident he is or if he’s not. I don’t really put too much mind into that. You can be happy, you can be confident, your body has a breaking point, your mind has a breaking point. Skills, experience pays dividends in the ring. All that goes out the window when the fights starts because you’ve got to do it now. I can be super confident in playing a video game I’ve never played before but them I’m playing a guy that knows how to play it — I’m going to lose, I don’t care if I believe in it or not.”

While fans have expressed their concerns for Benn ahead of the fight, the Brit himself has played down such remarks. "It's hard, it is brutal, but we are getting it done," Benn told Ring Magazine. "I'm not going to be complaining and moaning. I know what I signed up for. You are not going to see me posting posts for sympathy in sweat suits or me crying.

"I'm getting paid handsomely. I'm fighting for a world title and headlining a mega fight in Las Vegas. What is there to moan about Listen, we know what we sign up for. Don't sign the contract and want sympathy. Yes, it's going to be hard; yes, it is taking a piece out of my soul and my spirit to get down in weight; yes, it is excruciating, but it's part of the job. It's hard; your body is screaming."
