Conor McGregor calls for his own Croke Park night after Katie Taylor retires in front of 83,000

Conor McGregor has called for his own Croke Park headlining fight after watching his countrywoman do it last night.

Katie Taylor won her main event clash with Flora Pili on Saturday in front of 83,000 fans at the famed Irish stadium. She had been building to such a moment for her whole career after competing around the world for undisputed titles.

'Notorious' suffered a serious knee injury moments into his comeback fight against Max Holloway.

McGregor infamously never got a major Irish homecoming from the UFC after his sole Dublin fight in 2014 against Diego Brandao. He has one bout left on his contract that will happen in Las Vegas if at all, and should he want a big Irish event he would likely need to do it without the top MMA promotion.

Conor McGregor was one of many viewers worldwide taking in Katie Taylor’s massive retirement fight on Saturday. He is currently completing rehab for ACL surgery in California, and was unable to return to Dublin to be ringside like he has been for many of her world title bouts.

Years ago at the peak of his fame, McGregor was unable to turn his star-power into a stadium show in his home country. But after watching Taylor fill all of 83,000 seats last night, he wants to join her in making history.

The last man to headline a boxing event at Croke Park as A-Side was Muhammad Ali. McGregor alluded to this in a tweet which read: “McGregor Taylor Muhammad Ali.” He also pleaded with Taylor to return for one more fight in multiple messages.

“Fantastic scenes in Croke Park, Ireland for Katie Taylor’s most recent fight!” McGregor wrote. “She looked better than ever! Younger, fresher, renewed like the eagles! ALL HAIL KING JESUS! #GoAgainKatie #OneMoreTune #RetirementPostponed #JesusReigns.”

He followed it up with a photo of the pair together captioned: “Katie Taylor, let’s do ONE MORE FOR THE MAC… Well done champ!”
