Contract detail reveals Gallen could end ex NRL giant’s boxing career

Nelson Asofa-Solomona is not only putting his reputation on the line, he is also at risk of having another sporting career come to a sudden end.
Contract detail reveals Gallen could end ex NRL giant’s boxing career

Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s boxing career could end in the ring against Paul Gallen on Friday night, the ex-NRL giant revealed, due to a clause in his contract with his promotion, No Limit.

The former Storm enforcer has been throwing verbal barbs at Gallen in recent weeks, but that war of the words is partially being driven by Asofa-Solomona’s hunger to keep his career alive.

Sydney-based boxing organisation No Limit has a clause with Asofa-Solomona that could cut loose the 200cm giant if he loses to Gallen on Friday night.

Even with his reputation and contract on the line, the 30-year-old claims he’s not worried.

“There is a contractual agreement that if I lose that’s it,” Asofa-Solomona revealed.

“But look, there’s no thought of losing in my head. Not in this world or any other. It’s pressure, but pressure makes diamonds. More pressure, the better.”

Asofa-Solomona has found comfort in his past success in the ring, having won all three of his professional bouts to date via knockout.

“I’ve come through at the end ... plenty of times, and I’ll do it again,” he concluded.

Gallen will step into the ring with 16 wins – eight by knockout – two losses and one draw under his belt, with his last fight a controversial split-decision victory against Sonny Bill Williams last November.

The 45-year-old is coming out of boxing retirement to silence Asofa-Solomona, who taunted Gallen with a bizarre line encouraging him to use performance-enhancing drugs, even though “it’s not going to help him” have any chance of claiming victory.

“There hasn’t been any drug testing in the process of this fight,” said Asofa-Solomona, setting up a cheeky jab at Gallen’s history with the Sharks, who were caught in a supplements scandal in 2011.

“I do not care if he is taking something or has taken something in the past. I actually recommend he jumps on something. It’s not going to help him.”

Asofa-Solomona added: “He’s trying to throw a lot of stuff out there.

“He’s done a Google search and there’s nothing on me. My nose is pretty clean. If you search up his stuff, there’s a lot there.”

If Asofa-Solomona comes out on top on Friday, he has already set his sights on lining up a bout for the Australian heavyweight title, currently held by Stevan Ivic.

He has already spoken to his coach about his goal to win the Australian heavyweight title, but that dream is “a long way away” from becoming a reality.

“My sight hasn’t come off Paul Gallen,” Asofa-Solomona reiterated.

Gallen and Asofa-Solomona will fight at TikTok Entertainment Centre on Friday.
