Delhi Capitals expand US cricket network with new Connecticut academy

The Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy has inaugurated a new centre in Plainville, Connecticut, marking its third in the United States and fourth in North America. The expansion strengthens the academies’ international footprint, according to a press release.
Premier Cricket Academy, based in Plainville, has developed a youth cricket community over more than five years, training players aged five and above across Connecticut and the wider Northeast US. The partnership will integrate Delhi Capitals’ coaching curriculum, technical framework and player development approach into the centre, offering access to advanced coaching resources, performance training, and wider opportunities within the academy network.

Premier Cricket Academy facilitates progression to higher competitive levels, with three to four players selected annually for the USA Cricket pathway, participating in zonal and regional competitions. The academy also supports a growing number of female cricketers representing national and regional teams.
This development coincides with cricket’s rising popularity in the Northeast US and the sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic programme. The new centre aims to provide young players in Connecticut and neighbouring areas enhanced opportunities to hone their skills and pursue cricket careers.
Sunil Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Capitals, stated: “It is exciting to see our cricketing programme reach more parts of the world. We want to give young players an opportunity to learn and help them realise their dream of playing professional cricket at the highest level. With the expansion of the Delhi Capitals Academy, we are looking forward to giving more young players the opportunity to be part of our journey.”
The partnership also seeks to introduce cricket to athletes from other sports prevalent in Connecticut, such as baseball, lacrosse and field hockey. The academy programme aims to transfer skills including hand-eye coordination, agility, throwing and striking ability, footwork and decision-making into cricket.
Phani, Partner at Delhi Capitals Academy Connecticut, commented: “Partnering with Delhi Capitals is a transformational step for our academy and for cricket in Connecticut. We have built a strong local foundation over the years, and this partnership gives our players access to a much larger cricket ecosystem. Our goal is to give young cricketers a clear pathway to develop, compete and pursue opportunities at higher levels, while also introducing cricket to a new generation of American athletes. We are excited about what this partnership can mean for Connecticut and the future of cricket in the United States.”
With the addition of the Plainville centre, Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy operates 14 centres across five countries, including seven in India and seven international centres in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and Saudi Arabia. The network connects young cricketers globally through shared coaching expertise, player development programmes and opportunities for international exposure.
