“Do Better, This Is Unprofessional” – Tennis Fans Furious After Major Venus & Serena Williams Graphic Error During US Open Broadcast

Tennis fans criticized ESPN’s graphic error during the US Open broadcast, which replaced Venus Williams’ image with Serena Williams’ image while displaying the stats for the most major match wins in the Open Era before age 23 after American No. 2 Coco Gauff secured a spot in the US Open semifinals by defeating Mirra Andreeva in three sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.

The Williams sisters led the stats, with Venus (107), followed by Serena (103), then Mary Joe Fernandez (93), Chris Evert (90), and Gauff (89). Surprisingly, the ESPN broadcasters featured Serena’s image twice on the list, effectively replacing her older sister, a move that didn’t sit well with fans on social media.

From the source “@espn Please do better. This is unprofessional,” one fan commented.

The Williams sisters participated in different events at Flushing Meadows, but neither performed notably. Venus was eliminated in the first round of singles, while Serena teamed with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles, where they were defeated in the quarterfinals by Flavio Cobolli and Belinda Bencic in straight sets.

The Williams sisters hoped to roll back the years at Arthur Ashe Stadium after pairing up for the women’s doubles on September 4. However, due to a lack of consistent game time on tour this season, both players faltered in crucial moments of the match, and although they managed to win a set, they eventually lost the opening-round tie.

The duo lost to the Australian-Chinese Taipei pairing of Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching but received a warm reception from a packed stadium crowd. However, the sisters faced scrutiny afterward for canceling their post-game press conference. Neither sister has yet to comment on their participation in the remaining WTA Tour events in 2026.
