EA Sports announce return of beloved boxing game 15 years after last release

Boxing fans were treated to some great news this Tuesday afternoon after EA Sports made a surprise announcement.
On Tuesday, video game developer EA Sports announced that they are reviving one of the most popular sports games of all time.
Over the past few years, combat sports fans have had to make do with EA Sports releasing UFC games, with the developers having released five UFC games since 2014, with the latest edition having released earlier this year with Max Holloway and Alex Pereira being picked as cover athletes.
Now, though, boxing fans will be treated to a new edition of EA Sports Fight Night, which still stands as the most popular combat sports game series of all time.

The Fight Night game series hasn’t had a new instalment since 2011’s Fight Night Champion. The news of the new Fight Night game comes shortly after it was announced that EA Sports have been brought by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Rumors online suggested that Fight Night hasn’t had a new game release since 2014 because it became too difficult and expensive for developers to acquire licensing for athlete likeness for all of the world’s biggest boxers. Despite that, big names like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Mike Tyson have all featured in recent UFC games as unlockable fighters.
“Can’t wait for a nostalgic record sale of the first game followed by disappointment and ultimately micro transactions to kill it off in 2-5 years,” one fan reacted to the announcement on social media. “WE F—— WON!!! Thank you Undisputed for putting pressure on EA, your sacrifice will not go unnoticed around here!” another fan said.
In 2024, a new boxing game called ‘Undisputed’ released, developed by Steel City Interactive and published by Deep Silver. Despite that, the game received a lot of criticism because of the mechanics, and it has a 2.6/5 rating on one of the biggest gaming platforms in the world, Steam.
“It’s about damn time. But everything you do with Madden and UFC? Do the opposite of with this game,” another fan said. “I’d be excited but EA has ruined every sports game,” predicted another fan.
It is fair to say that despite the overall excitement for the new edition of Fight Night, which is yet to be given a release date, fans are not getting their hopes up due to recent games that have been released by EA Sports.
