Eagles To Move Cam Jurgens To LG In Week 2; Drew Kendall To Start At C

Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson struggled in the team’s Week 1 victory over the Commanders, and after the game, he admitted he probably should not have played. He suffered a bone bruise in his knee during training camp, and as a result of that injury, he is now on injured reserve.
When Dickerson went on IR, our Ben Levine suggested Philadelphia could get creative with how it chooses to replace him. And the team is doing just that, as the NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe (video link) reports center Cam Jurgens will move to Dickerson’s LG slot for Sunday’s game against the Titans, while Drew Kendall will take over for Jurgens at the pivot.
Jurgens also struggled in the Washington contest, but he has been the Eagles’ starting center for the past two seasons and earned Pro Bowl acclaim following both years. He landed a four-year, $68MM extension last April, presumably with the expectation that he would remain the team’s snapper for the foreseeable future.
For now, at least, he will move to his third spot on an NFL O-line. After seeing just a handful of offensive snaps as a rookie in 2022, Jurgens became Philly’s primary right guard in 2023. He shifted to center in 2024 following Jason Kelce’s retirement.
Kendall is a 2025 fifth-rounder who played sparingly in his rookie campaign, save for a Week 18 appearance when the Eagles were resting their starters in advance of the playoffs. Per EJ Smith of PHLY Sports, Kendall has impressed in team meetings and has a good handle on pre-snap calls.
His mettle will be put to the test against a Tennessee front that features Jeffery Simmons and John Franklin-Myers. However, Kendall did play exclusively at center while at Boston College (h/t Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice), so despite the obvious familiarity between Jurgens and quarterback Jalen Hurts, there is some logic to keeping Kendall at a position he is more familiar with while moving the veteran Jurgens to a different position on the interior.
Depending on how Dickerson progresses, Smith believes the current alignment could remain in place through the course of the season. Or, it may be a one-week trial run to ease Kendall in at a spot where he can get more assistance with blocking Simmons.
