Failed Nottingham Forest figure lands shock new job, laughable claim made

Failed Nottingham Forest figure Edu has joined a shock new club to help them try and establish themselves higher up the football pyramid.

The Brazilian was a disastrous appointment made by Evangelos Marinakis. Within months, Edu had fallen out with Nuno Espirito Santo, and ultimately, the Portuguese head coach ended up with the sack.

Edu was officially sent on his way by Forest earlier this year. He has been replaced internally by George Syrianos, with the Reds’ owner learning big lessons from his appointment of the sporting director who failed.

The Cobblers have had some investment in recent months, with Joao Xavier trying to get Northampton through the ranks, with former Milan star Alexandre Pato also part of the consortium.

Now, Edu has got on board with things as someone who apparently knows English football – with Xavier making a claim that Forest and Arsenal fans might find somewhat amusing.

He said during a press conference: “We are proud to have Alex (Pato) with us and Edu too. We became friends because he had a role at Nottingham Forest, and he helped me learn about English football a lot. Edu is a senior advisor for one of our partners, and he’s going to help us navigate our journey in England.”

Two main signings that Edu made at Forest were Omari Hutchinson and Douglas Luiz. One is on loan with Milan, and the other was recalled by Juventus after just six months at the City Ground.

It was a poor indictment of Edu’s time at the club. He never really got things right, and ultimately, Marinakis was right to terminate his employment across all of his clubs.

Northampton might see someone like Edu as a huge positive. However, the League Two club have to be careful what they wish for.
