HARRISON, N.J. — In his first season with the Philadelphia Waterdogs, former UAlbany men’s lacrosse standout Silas Richmond is a Premier Lacrosse League champion.

Selected fifth overall by Philadelphia in the 2026 Premier Lacrosse League Draft last spring, Richmond put together an impressive rookie campaign for the Waterdogs.

Despite not suiting up for the team’s first four games, Richmond recorded six goals and eight points across seven regular-season appearances. His three-point performance in a win over the New Atlas marked the best game of his young career.

Philadelphia entered the postseason with the league’s best record at 9-3 and earned a first-round bye. The Waterdogs faced the Boston Cannons in the semifinals on Saturday, Sept. 7, defeating them 13-10. Richmond contributed a goal in the second quarter, finishing the game with seven shots.

With a spot in the Premier Lacrosse League Championship secured, Philadelphia faced the Denver Outlaws on Sunday in search of its first title since 2022.

The Waterdogs were crowned champions with a commanding 14-4 victory over the Outlaws at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J., powered by a dominant six-point performance from CJ Kirst.

Richmond contributed a goal and an assist in the victory while ranking third on the team in touches and passes. His all-around postseason performance helped Philadelphia capture the second championship in franchise history.

Richmond joins Connor Fields, Blaze Riorden and Troy Reh as former Great Danes to win Premier Lacrosse League titles.

Across four seasons as an attacker at UAlbany, Richmond recorded 161 goals and 114 assists. He was a two-time America East Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time America East First Team All-Conference selection. During his time with the Great Danes, Richmond played a key role in three consecutive America East championships.

He was drafted by the Waterdogs during a regular-season showdown versus Siena last fall in what was a memorable night for the UAlbany star lacrosse player.

“I’ve dreamed about that my whole entire life,” Richmond said about being drafted following that victory versus the Saints. “I’ve really worked hard at it, and I feel like all those hours I put in have kind of paid off over the past little bit. This is a really rewarding moment for me.”

Well, Silas, all that hard work has now rewarded you with a professional lacrosse ring.
