Gable Steveson advocates for Josh Hokit title shot when matchmaking the heavyweight division

Gable Steveson would like to see his fellow American heavyweight get the next shot.

Steveson believes that the difference between him and his UFC 331 opponent is that he isn’t just happy to be competing inside the Octagon.

The Olympic gold medalist will look to take another step towards his big aspirations this Saturday during a period of uncertainty at the top of the division.

Steveson sees Tom Aspinall vacating the heavyweight title as a great opportunity, but believes that another rising star should be the one to capitalize on this.

Gable Steveson isn’t opposed to fighting Josh Hokit despite both men training under legendary coach Greg Jackson.

An all-American clash taking place at the top of the division between the two relatively recent additions to the division further down the line is an exciting prospect.

Despite comments that Hokit has made about Steveson in the past, the UFC 331 star hopes that his fellow countryman benefits from the current state of the heavyweight division.

The 4-0 rising star was asked during media day on fight week how he’d book the heavyweight division if being put into the matchmaker’s chair.

“I would love Josh Hokit, would be cool [for him] to get the opportunity,” Steveson said, via MMA Fighting. “As you guys know, Josh is a guy that talks a mile a minute. He puts himself on the map so it’d be nice for him to get the opportunity and see what he can do and I think he could do great. But, I think Ciryl Gane is our best heavyweight right now. He’s fantastic.”

Josh Hokit is widely regarded as one of the cringiest fighters on the roster, but what do you think of him?😬

Having previously pursued a clash with Alex Pereira, Josh Hokit called to face Ciryl Gane in his reaction to Tom Aspinall vacating the belt.

‘The Incredible Hok’ has put together a four-fight win streak in the heavyweight division less than a year on from his Octagon debut.

In a post on X, Hokit stated that he will continue to maintain the pace that has quickly seen him become one of the top fighters in the weight class.

“The fans deserve Me vs Gane,” he said. “I’ll give Ciryl what he has coming. If Alex can win 1 fight in my weight class, I’ll give it to him too, early ‘27. I’ll be the most active champ in the company.”
