Former GAA star Conor McKenna has been presented with the AFL goal of the season award, and a a huge cheque that goes with it.
The ex-Tyrone footballer's stunning, soccer-style strike for Brisbane Lions against Collingwood captured the attention of fans across the globe, with many tipping it to claim the prestigious accolade.
McKenna will pocket a cheque worth $50,000 Australian dollars for the remarkable finish.
The goal, netted on matchday 24, was instantly hailed as an all-time classic in the AFL.
With the ball drifting towards the by-line, McKenna struck it on the half-volley with the outside of his boot, threading it through the posts from an extraordinarily tight angle, reports the Irish Mirror.
"A bit of Gaelic skills came in there," said McKenna upon receiving the award. "I have my club Eglish back home to thank for that."
The Irishman demonstrated the goal was no fluke, netting a near-identical effort at the weekend as Brisbane Lions defeated Adelaide to secure their place in the AFL Grand Final.
"A few of the boys thought it was a fluke, but I did it again at the weekend so I guess it's not really," said McKenna to laughs.
As for his plans for the prize money?
"If the wife asks, it's probably for the house, but if I get my way I'll buy a horse probably."
