Girls Golf Roundup: San Marcos Battles to Tight Rivalry Win Over Dos Pueblos

San Marcos girls golf pulled out a four-stroke victory over crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Thursday afternoon at Glen Annie Golf Club.
The Royals ended the day with a team score of 242 to edge out the Chargers and their total of 246 on the par-35 course.
“Dos Pueblos is a strong team and well-coached,” San Marcos head coach Sarah Ashton said. “Each of their players put forth a solid effort today, and we hoped this was going to be a close match.
“The rivalry these two teams share goes back to the start of high school girls golf in the 90s, and we are grateful to celebrate a win today… The Chargers are worthy opponents, and we enjoyed the camaraderie and sportsmanship on the course today.”
Dos Pueblos’ Celeste Alcaraz earned the medalist honors with a match-best score of 41, while San Marcos’ Simrin Singh finished one stroke behind at 42.
“Celeste deserves a lot of credit for once again being medalist in such a competitive match,” Dos Pueblos head coach Dan Choi said.
Singh was followed by fellow Royals Mia Rocha (45), Chloe Bellamy (51), Sierra Kaderali (51), Hayden Anderson (53) and Cana Spieker (61).
“Simrin has been a consistent force for us this season and came up huge in today’s win,” Ashton said. “Hayden is a sophomore who just joined the team and is already making meaningful contributions. She’s level-headed and really wants to learn. Both Hayden and Simrin are incredibly coachable as well as respectful opponents.
“Mia has also been making a consistent impact for us on the course and as a team leader. We have been relying on her scores in each of our matches and I know she will continue to be a vital component of a winning season.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the Charger golfers were Isabella Sebastian (46), Alina Van Hooijdonk (52), Sophia Ralston (53), Sophia Morales (54) and Macy Prahm (55).
“It’s always hard to lose a close crosstown match, but we knew it would be close. We did not have our best stuff today, and SM definitely earned the win,” Choi said. “They are a well-coached team, and I have a lot of respect for the job that Sarah, Craig and Steve do.
“Despite not having our best, I am proud of the girls for how they fought hard and stayed mentally present. The girls have learned a lot from this match, and I am sure it will be great motivation to continue to be better.”
The Dons suffered a road loss to the Cougars on Thursday at Buena Ventura Golf Course, a par 36.
Cecilia Duarte led all Santa Barbara High golfers at 44, and she was joined by Jazmin Mislang (51), Livvie Zampelli (61), Camryn Quinn (61), Ava Rudd (62) and Blake Kaufman (68).
The Dons (3-3) will host Pacifica on Tuesday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.
