Girls Tennis: Abington Heights perfect in league play

Comets Addie Stark returns a backhand against Prep’s Lily Lengyel.
Abington Heights completed a 12-0 run through Lackawanna League Division 1 girls tennis, but it was not always easy.
The Lady Comets won half their matches by 5-0 sweeps, but there were also five 3-2 decisions – two each over Scranton Prep and Wallenpaupack and one in a match with North Pocono.
Scranton Prep’s only losses came to Abington Heights, so the division title came down to a late-season rematch between the two teams on the home court of the Classics.
Abington Heights pulled out the 3-2 victory behind Amishi Amit’s rally for a three-set victory at No. 3 singles.
Kate Arp won in straight sets at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Sammy Rosenstein-Margot Rubner did the same.
The team points came from the same three sources during the first meeting at Abington Heights Sept. 9.
In that match, however, it was Arp who had to rally. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, she won the next two to claim the decisive point.
The only Abington Heights losses of a 15-2 regular season came in non-league matches against Hollidaysburg and Allentown Central Catholic.
