It was the final Tuesday of September. Let’s dive into it.
▪ In Northbridge’s 3-2 field hockey win over Nipmuc, junior Isabelle Stanley recorded a hat trick, delivering the winning goal with seven minutes to play, and notching her 100th career point in the process.
▪ Tom Turco took over the Barnstable girls’ volleyball program in 1988 and went 5-11. He hasn’t done much losing since.
On Monday, in his 39th year, Turco notched his 800th career win, against just 97 losses, by beating Bridgewater-Raynham, 3-0. Ava Johnston had 17 kills and Jaelynn Jason powered the sweep with 18 digs.
“It felt good,” said Turco, who has won 18 state titles. “The players had a great night . . . That’s a group of players that won 800 games. Hats off to them, and my assistant coach, Marylou Robles, who has been with me 23 years.”
▪ Junior Max Tillmann became Medfield’s all-time leading boys’ soccer scorer with two tallies in Monday’s 7-1 win over Holliston, giving him 49 goals for his career.
▪ Also on Monday, Oliver Ames senior captain Taylor Donohue notched her 500th career kill during a 3-0 girls’ volleyball win over Mansfield.
▪ Unranked Milton got a goal from sophomore Eva Timlin, set up by senior Ellie O’Connor and the Wildcats’ defense stood tall in a 1-0 girls’ soccer defeat of No. 15 Braintree.
▪ On Monday, No. 7 Hopkinton girls’ soccer rallied from down 3-1 thanks to a pair of Natalie Prisco goals, including the winner with five minutes to play, in a surprising 4-3 win over No. 5 Natick, the defending Division 1 champion.
As time expired, Danvers senior Kyla Moroney found freshman Zoie Abell, who scored as time expired to salvage a 2-2 field hockey draw with Bishop Fenwick.
Henry Bizzozero, BC High — The freshman found his groove, firing a 3-under-par 33 to medal at Wollaston Country Club during a narrow 227-229 golf win over St. John’s (Shrewsbury).
Blase Chatigny, Sandwich — The Willowbend course could barely contain the senior captain, who carded a 4-under-par 31 in a 231-234 golf win over St. John Paul II, which got a 3-under 32 from Griffin Mayo.
Cassidy Hasenfratz, Dighton-Rehoboth — The sophomore turned in the highest scoring girls’ soccer performance reported to the Globe thus far this fall, tallying six goals in an 8-2 triumph over Seekonk.
LB Manning, St. John’s Prep — The junior shot a 2-under-par 34, the lowest score by an Eagles golfer at Turner Hill Golf Club in three years, during a 221-247 golf win over Catholic Memorial.
Charlotte Wren, Acton-Boxborough — The senior played finisher and facilitator, scoring twice and dishing two assists in a 5-0 field hockey victory over Westford.
Isla Hummer, Westford — The senior dominated the net, putting up 12 blocks and adding seven kills and five aces during the Ghosts’ 3-2 girls’ volleyball reverse sweep of Acton-Boxborough.
▪ Canton senior Lauren Raffetto, who recently broke her own home course record at Pequitside Farm, announced her commitment to run cross-country and track at Wake Forest. She finished fifth at All-States last fall.
▪ Westford Academy junior Grace Trahan announced her commitment to play women’s lacrosse at Boston University. At 5-6, she plays midfield for the Ghosts and attack for Laxachusetts Black.
▪ Norwell senior Alex Cassidy has committed to play women’s basketball at Bowdoin. The 5-foot-11-inch forward was a role player on the Clippers’ consecutive state finalist teams before blossoming into a lead role.
▪ Taunton senior Max Kaplan, a 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound righthanded pitcher and outfielder, has committed to play baseball at Hartford.
For leading Newton North to its first win over Weymouth in eight years, Nick Capodilupo was named Patriots Coach of the Week. The Tigers clawed out of a 6-0 halftime hole, scoring twice in the second half and denying a potential tying 2-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter.
With the 14-12 Week 3 victory, which featured 112 rushing yards from Domenic Busa and two TD runs from QB Connor Swanson, Newton North improved to 3-0.
“Capodilupo has done an outstanding job building a culture of confidence and belief,” Hall of Fame Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett said while presenting the school with a $1,000 donation from the Kraft family and Patriots Charitable Foundation. “Starting the season 3–0 and earning the program’s first victory over Weymouth in eight years speaks to the preparation, toughness, and commitment of his players and coaching staff. What makes it even more special is that Nick is a Newton North graduate and former captain who has come back to lead the same program that helped shape him.”
▪ Middlebury sophomore linebacker Carson Eutsay, a Catholic Memorial graduate from Boston, was named NESCAC football Defensive Player of the Week on the back of a 70-yard pick-6, one of his two interceptions in a 16-0 win over Bowdoin.
▪ Hamilton sophomore Lila Sullivan, a BB&N graduate from Charlestown, was the NESCAC women’s soccer Player of the Week after scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Connecticut College. She is second in the league with eight goals and 17 points.
▪ Keene State freshman Bella Bacon, a Brookline graduate, was named LEC women’s volleyball Rookie of the Week for a second consecutive week, while also earning Defensive Player of the Week honors. She compiled 32 kills, 37 digs, 5 assists, 5 aces, and 4 blocks in wins over Colby-Sawyer and Eastern Connecticut State.
▪ Dartmouth sophomore Maeve Theobald, a BB&N graduate from Milton, was the Ivy League women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week thanks to a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over Penn and two assists in a 4-0 victory over Bryant.
▪ Westfield State junior Kylie Tomasetti, an Algonquin graduate from Northborough, was tabbed MASCAC women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals in two games, including the winner to beat Bridgewater State, 1-0. She has 9 points (three goals, three assists) in nine games.
