Globe Schools Insider: Saturday football highlights, seven D1 commitments, and a new baseball coach

▪ Daily recaps: Boys’ soccer | Girls’ soccer | Field hockey | Cross-country | Girls’ volleyball

Ian Seymour’s lone relief inning in Game 4 of the ALCS wasn’t swell for the Rays, but while the St. John’s (Shrewsbury) graduate was allowing two runs on four hits, there were some locals making noise on the college football field — including Harvard’s Kise Flannery, a Catholic Memorial graduate who ran for two touchdowns in a 30-7 rout of Holy Cross, and Vanderbilt senior Nick Rinaldi, a Dover-Sherborn graduate who made a season-high nine tackles in a 31-21 loss to Arkansas.

Your weekly look at the top high school sports stories.

Now on to the high school action from Saturday, which included the 65th annual Catholic Memorial Invitational, plus a few leftovers from Friday night:

▪ With 13 catches for 153 yards on Friday night, Bishop Fenwick senior Jamie Dube became the school’s all-time leading receiver with 1,356 yards. He’s done that in just 14 games since transferring from Hamilton-Wenham, and his 94 catches are second in Fenwick history.

▪ In Georgetown’s 5-0 girls’ soccer rout of Amesbury on Friday, senior Kathryn Greenblatt recorded a hat trick to reach 50 career goals.

▪ Somerville girls’ soccer senior captain Camila Plata recently netted her 100th career goal.

▪ Hingham field hockey coach Susan Petrie reached 250 career wins after guiding the Harbormen past Scituate, 7-1. Petrie, a history teacher at Hingham High, took over the program in 2006.

“I’ve loved every year coaching,” said Petrie. “It’s quite the commitment, but I love it.”

Zlata Alioshka, St. John Paul II — The senior captain was equally adept finding her teammates and finding open floor from the service line, racking up 28 assists and 11 digs, and adding four kills and four digs, in a 3-1 girls’ volleyball win over Nauest.

MoRodney Daigle, Northbridge — The senior piled up 204 rushing yards, with three touchdowns and a successful 2-point conversion to beat Blackstone Valley, 20-8.

Lucas De Oliveira, Northeast — The senior carried the mail in a 20-13 win over Bay Path with 161 rushing yards and two first-half scores on 21 carries.

Quinn Hallisey, Hingham — The freshman filled up the stat sheet with two goals and two assists in a 7-1 field hockey win over Scituate.

Tobi Kyleberger, Wayland — The senior had a hand in four goals, scoring two and assisting on two others, in a 6-0 boys’ soccer win over Dearborn STEM.

Jack Spear, Pingree — Committed to Central Connecticut State, the senior from Swampscott quarterbacked a 21-14 win over Worcester Academy with 189 passing yards, a passing TD, and two touchdowns on the ground.

EJ Wright Jr., Brighton — The junior did it all defensively and on special teams in a 14-0 win over Quaboag, making 11 tackles (5 for loss), forcing two fumbles, and blocking a punt.

▪ Wellesley junior Ieva Macinnes announced her commitment to run cross-country and track for Boston University.

▪ Westwood senior Greg Walsh, a 6-foot midfielder who reached 100 career points in April, announced his commitment to play Division 1 men’s lacrosse at Hobart.

▪ Westwood junior Erin Gannon, a 5-foot, 5-inch midfielder, announced her intention to play Division 1 women’s lacrosse at Stonehill.

▪ Westford senior Alexa Coward announced her plans to compete in Division 1 women’s soccer at Iona, and classmate Aaron Hughes has committed to play Division 1 baseball at St. Joseph’s.

▪ Xaverian senior Mike O’Keefe, a 5-foot, 9-inch 175-pound second baseman/outfielder, announced his commitment to play Division 1 baseball at Merrimack.

▪ Concord-Carlisle senior Maria Chopas, who recently won the Amherst Invitational in 18 minutes, 15.4 seconds, announced she will continue her running career at Division 1 Dartmouth.

▪ CATS Academy senior Donovan Clement, a 6-foot, 9-inch wing, has committed to play Division 1 men’s basketball at Missouri State. He had offers from BU, Holy Cross, and UMass Lowell, among others.

Division 3 commitments from the past week: Xaverian senior Jack Weintraub, from Medway, plans to run track at Johns Hopkins, Plymouth North senior Lily Bartholomew plans to run track at Babson; St. John’s Prep senior Mateo DeOrio will head to Tufts to run track; Bridgewater-Raynham senior Lila Polansky committed to play women’s basketball at Bard; and Old Rochester senior Charlie Connelly has committed to play baseball at Castleton.

After 14 years on the staff at Natick, Matt Lodi is taking over the Newton North baseball program.

A sixth-grade social studies teacher at Pierce Middle School in Natick, Lodi is also coach of the Milton girls’ hockey team.

“From the classroom to the rink and baseball diamond, his focus has always been on building relationships, creating strong teams, and helping young people grow,” Newton North wrote on social media. “We’re excited to have his experience, energy, and commitment to student-athletes as part of our community.”

▪ Northeastern junior Camryn Collins, a Foxborough graduate, was selected as a CAA Preseason women’s basketball Honorable Mention. She led the Huskies with 320 points last season, averaging 11.4 points while shooting 40 percent from the floor and 74.1 percent from the line.

▪ Suffolk sophomore Mohamed Mehaya, an Excel Academy graduate, was named Conference of New England men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring seven goals in three games. Coming off CNE Rookie of the Year honors in 2025, Mehaya is currently the Rams’ leading scorer.

Amesbury High celebrated its 2026 Hall of Fame induction class last week, inducting former golf coach Thomas William “Bill” Connolly, three-sport standout Rebecca Ouellett (class of 2000), and football and track standout Kevin Johnston (’09).
