Golf Notes: Taco Tuesday Tournament

There was another Taco Tuesday Little River Women’s Club sponsored tournament played on the Little River Course Taco Tuesday September 8th. The nine-hole event was played to the Vegas Style Shamble format. The Vegas Shamble required every team to have one dice. Each member of the team is assigned a dice number one to four. All teammates tee off then the dice is rolled to determine which drive to use. If a one is rolled and that is your number and you hit your drive out-of-bounds, that is the drive the team must use. Or maybe you smacked your drive 250 yards down the middle. Thank you. If a five or six is rolled the team gets to choose the best team drive. After the Vegas drive is chosen each team member plays their own ball to finish the hole. The two best scores on each hole are recorded for the team score.
Winning first place Taco Tuesday was team Dan Garcia, Neil Blaney, Dave Sroaf and Mike Bradley. Mike Bradley gave us a little peek inside the event. His team shotgun started on the back nine hole 12. The event was played on the back nine. Mike said he pulled his drive about 40 yards to the left into the tall grass, bushy area. His teammates hit their drives nicely down the middle. The dice were rolled. It settled on Mikes number. Of course. The 13th hole was a bit rough also. Mike hit his drive tight to the left side of the fairway and sure enough his number was rolled again. After the first two holes the team and the dice settled down to win first place. Second place was taken by team Bill Gibney, Kathy Gibney, Garry Van Tassel and Gloria Van Tassel. Husband and wife and husband and wife. The Gibney’s and the Van Tassels. Nice playing team. The third place was rolled by Sonny Hanover, Bryan Nez and Bob Cimmiyotti a three-person team. At rounds end, golf created hunger was quenched by tacos from Los Gallitos. The final Taco Tuesday will be played October 13th. See you there.
Ran into the 2026 no handicap Men’s Club Champion, Will Johnson, last Saturday on the Little River putting green. “Have you played any golf since the championship round?” I asked Will. “No. I have not played any golf since then.”, answered Will. The 36-hole championship match took place Sunday, August 30th. Will’s opponent was Grant Pardini. This day Will was putting on the practice green with his lovely little daughter, Frankie. I didn’t catch Frankie’s age but I’d guess nine or ten. She is a student at the Mendocino grammar school. Pointing at his daughter I said, “Are we looking at the future Club Champion here Will?” They both smiled. “Maybe”, Will commented. At least I hope we are looking at a future Mendocino High School Girl’s Golf team member. As we know, today, Mendocino does not have a girl’s golf team.
