GOP Chair considers dragging WNBA boss Cathy Engelbert under oath over gender probe

Cathy Engelbert and the WNBA are in absolutely no rush to define a woman.

WNBA officials view the draft declarations by Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White as bad-faith political stunts rather than genuine eligibility claims.

And with no active player situation requiring immediate policy changes, the league plans to address its guidelines calmly through upcoming collective bargaining reviews rather than being provoked.

However, the longer the WNBA keep their silence, the more the attention turns away from basketball and onto the transgender debate.

Benny Johnson recently did an interview with the Republican Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, where he was quizzed on the WNBA‘s definition of a woman.

He states that he is open to putting WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert under oath to define what a woman actually is, and even suggested talks with Riley Gaines over the matter.

Johnson asked: “Have you ever considered bringing in the head of the WNBA to ask her what a woman is?”

Comer responded: “We have so many people on the committee that want to do that. Nancy Mace would give anything to ask that question. She loves to ask people what the definition of a woman is, so I’m very open to that. We’d love to work with Riley Gaines, so we will be in touch with Riley about that.”

An official subpoena is unlikely. Congressional leadership typically reserves forced under-oath testimony for major financial fraud or active regulatory disputes.

While lawmakers often raise political culture-war questions during hearings, public sports figures usually participate through voluntary briefings or negotiate private meetings to avoid sworn testimony.
