Davis was part of a local amateur boxing event that was held recently at the Goulburn Workers Club.

Locals Logan Hunt, Darcy Cooper, Seth Ramsay, Mace Elford and Davis all fought on the fight card and all won.

Davis won his first title fight and received the fighter of the night award.

He fought in the 70-78 kilogram division and took on Jack Bowker.

"All we knew about him (Jack Bowker) was that he had a similar record as me," Davis said.

The bout was scheduled for four three-minute rounds but it did not go the distance.

Davis got the victory in the second round when the referee stopped the fight, giving the local boxer a well-deserved win.

He was happy with his effort.

"I am a pressure fighter - I take the fight up to my opponent," he said.

He took the "why do overtime" approach and was out to dominate Bowker from the first round.

Davis is now hoping to fight for a NSW title in Sydney on October 24. He is not sure who he will be fighting.

He trains locally at Goulburn's Browne's Boxing Gym under the guidance of coach Davie Browne.

The 28-year-old enjoyed fighting in front of his home crowd.

"Every time I landed a punch there was a huge cheer," he said.

Davis said about 400 people turned up for the event at the Workers Club and said the event was a great success.

For the past five to six months, Davis has been building momentum with his boxing and has been involved with the sport for close to five years.

He likes the self-discipline that comes from boxing.

His coach can prepare him and his sparring partners can work him hard, but Davis knows once he steps in the ring it's all up to him.

The Goulburn boxer's training program will now be picking up as the NSW title fight looms.

Under the guidance of coach Browne he will be hitting the gym hard.

Sparring will be an important part of his preparation for the October 24 title.

Davis will be travelling regularly to Sydney and Canberra for sparring sessions.
