“Happened to Dak Prescott”: Sports Doctor Shares Pessimistic Caleb Williams Injury Update After Bears QB’s Exit vs Vikings

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the visiting Minnesota Vikings. Late in the fourth quarter, Williams went down without contact.
Sports doctor Jesse Morse shared his thoughts on Williams’ injury in a post on X. He said the noncontact nature of the injury made it more concerning and compared it to Dak Prescott’s 2024 injury, when the Dallas Cowboys quarterback suffered a severe partial avulsion of his right hamstring.
“Appears to be a right hamstring strain. This is likely to be a significant injury given the fact that it was non-contact (after his right leg was tripped up) and he was writhing in pain and then could not put any weight on that right leg. This is probably a grade 2 hamstring strain, which is a partial tear, but there’s a possibility this is a grade 3, which is what happened to Dak Prescott, that required season-ending surgery. Those aren’t common but possible,” Morse wrote.
Williams was the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Despite being in just his third NFL season, he has shown impressive durability, appearing in every game across his first two seasons with the Bears.
If Morse’s assessment is correct and Williams has suffered a Grade 2 or Grade 3 hamstring strain, surgery could be necessary. That could bring his third NFL season to an early end after just two games. However, it is still too early to make a definitive assessment of Williams’ status for the coming weeks.
The Chicago Bears were left reeling after the loss. They opened the season with a dominant 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers, but suffered a tough 9-3 defeat in their first home game. Caleb Williams’ injury added to the team’s concerns.
After the game, Chicago coach Ben Johnson told reporters that he was not yet aware of the severity of Williams’ injury.
“We’ll know tomorrow,” he said, according to NBC Sports. “He’s in good spirits. He’s a team player.
“I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee. … That was my first inclination, but a hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. So, we’ll see. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow, and we’ll go from there.”
Williams completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards and threw one interception before leaving the game in the fourth quarter.
