The cars will range from a 1911 National Model 40 to a 2022 Dallara DW12. In all there will be 30 historic cars.
Among the 30 some likely favorites include:“Together, the drivers and cars will provide a moving timeline of open-wheel racing, connecting generations of machinery, technology and personalities with the stars competing for today’s NTT IndyCar Series championship,” organizers said. The Historic Indy car Exhibition celebrates great moments of Monterey past, from Rahal’s four consecutive victories at the track from 1984 to 1987, Bryan Herta’s back-to-back wins in ‘98 and ‘99, Danny Sullivan’s championship-clinching performance in 1988, Max Papis’ charge from 25th on the grid to win in 2001, and the epic Zanardi-Herta battle through the Corkscrew in 1996.
“Now, fans will have the opportunity to experience that history not in photographs or videos, but at speed and in person,” Laguna Seca said. He started writing for City News Service in Los Angeles, then moved to Europe and became editor of a car magazine called, creatively, Auto. He decided Auto should cover Formula 1, sports prototypes and touring cars—no one stopped him! From there he interviewed with Autoweek at the 1989 Frankfurt motor show and has been with us ever since.
